New Music Detroit welcomed clarinetist, Shannon Orme in 2013.  Prior to joining the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in 2007, she was co-principal of the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra in Japan.  Shannon has also performed with the Chicago Symphony, New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Toronto Symphony, Bergen Filharmoniske and the World Orchestra for Peace.  An advocate for new music, she performed with theLucerne Festival Academy under Pierre Boulez for two seasons as well as the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble.  Shannon spends her summers at the Grand Teton Music Festival where she is also a frequent chamber musician and serves as Adjunct Professor at Wayne State University.

Upon graduating from the Interlochen Arts Academy, Shannon attended Northwestern University (B.Mus.) and University of Southern California(M.M.).  Her principle teachers include Richard Hawkins, J. Lawrie Bloom and Yehuda Gilad.
